[No.028] The Project of Celebrating Our Anniversary & Living during this Pandemic Time

This is the story on how my husband and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary despite this pandemic situation. This year has been rough for all of us. Probably a lot more difficult for most than others. So much is going on in this world this year. We've had to say goodbye to family, friends, and even see celebrities and athletes that we admired pass on. We see protests, death, experiencing certain regulations to lower the spread of our current pandemic. Overall our lives are different from a year ago.

A year ago today, we were celebrating our honeymoon all over Italy. A trip of a lifetime as we enjoyed all the sites, food, and memories. We thought we would be able to travel somewhere in celebration of our one year anniversary; however, due to this pandemic, it's really hard to or we simply can't. For trips out of the country, that is definitely a no since we don't know if we'll be able to come back when we planned to or if we would get stuck due to the regulations and rules that are being done due to COVID-19.

Traveling domestically is still a difficult decision to make because mentally you are in an airplane for a couple of hours or more, breathing in the shared air, and even with their new protocols on cleaning and hepa filters, its still hard to put in mind whether it's still okay for our bodies to travel. Because of all of these barriers, we didn't think we would be able to really do anything to celebrate.

Driving by car to a destination is the only safe feeling plan we can do and if ever, staying with a family as well, but you can't always do that. But thankfully, we were able to find probably a better alternative to what we ever thought could happen this year.

For the day of our anniversary,we went back to where we said "I DO" last year, and walked around the property, had a nice lunch at the open restaurant the hotel had which overlooked the view and our ceremony location. After we reminisced a bit, we picked up our one year cake the hotel made for us. It was really amazing to have that especially during these times. They basically recreated the cake we made last year during our reception, and gave us a new cake to take home to enjoy and celebrate with.

Just when we thought our celebration was over, my parents gifted us with staying at the hotel again for the weekend. It felt amazing to feel like we were traveling some how. It's still difficult to really feel comfortable in a public place without a mask even though it was in the privacy of our own room but we wiped everything multiple times, had the fresh air flowing from opening our balcony doors.

It felt nice to walk around the beach area, breath in the fresh air, and stare at the ocean. We had lunch again at their restaurant, checked out the San Clemente Outlets, found a lobster roll place, and got back to the hotel to relax. The hotel sent over a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries which were delicious.

Overall, we found Joy even in moments where our plans didn't go according to how we first planned it to be. With not being able to travel out of state or country, our only option was really staying local. Fortunately for us, it's not too much of a drive to go back to where we got married and visit the scenes again. Thankful for a new year, and the chance to be able to celebrate it in this way.
