[No.027] The Project of Your Wedding & Planning It

(We created this short video which was taken from our feature film by Amari Productions)

When I was younger, I already started dreaming of my wedding and how I wanted it before I even knew who I would be marrying. As you grow up you add or remove things from your ideas. But in all reality, by the time you actually get to that point in life, some times your plans get altered. However, with that being said, it didn't stop me from being able to plan the wedding and have my husband be part of it too. Not all men will be detailed in the planning of the wedding. My husband was part of the surface planning and then he left me to do most of the details.

I'm an organized person, and I project plan in my mind so it being my wedding, I didn't need a planner until the day of. Some venues don't require a wedding planner but for the venue we had our wedding, the planner was a requirement. This was difficult for us since I did 95% of the work. I created my own timelines and check list. We communicated with all of our vendors and did the work of payment as well, we did all the purchasing of what was needed, so in the end we just paid for a body because it was required. Check your venue's guidelines prior to signing a contract just to prepare for any financial parts that you weren't planning on.

I designed how I wanted the flowers, created and designed our giveaways for guests, and even made our own table numbers and name cards which were actually tiles with every guest name placed on it and converted into magnets. We gave our wedding party gifts which consisted of star wars socks for the guys with blue Vans slip ons, and for the girls they each received pink Vans slip ons, and a coach mini bag that was pink or blue.

When the time comes for you, do what you can to get the wedding you've always wanted. Never think your dreams are impossible or too much. Don't give up until you've exhausted all your possibilities. If it just comes down to it really not working out, at least you tried your best. There are moments where it will be really difficult due to the different circumstances we face in our lives, but we made it a point to make it the best day of our lives. Everything in our wedding was customized to how we planned and designed it. We just pulled the right people in to make this come alive. The one thing that is the most important part is that you and your partner are always on the same page. Communicate about everything and I mean EVERYTHING. Communication is always the key. If you like something or don't like something, talk about it. That's what got us through our entire pre-wedding planning. We spoke our minds, shared our thoughts, and continued that communication throughout the wedding to avoid any issues.

When I was a little girl, I thought about having some type of dream wedding. Now that I was in that chapter in my lives, never did I think about how blessed we were to have our wedding the way it was and where it was. We will forever be thankful for the provisions God gave us along the way. It was blessings upon blessings when it came to the venue, the vendors, the people we met, down to our clothes, the shoes, just everything. My flowers were beyond my imagination, my violin teacher and his brother were able to play at my wedding thanks to my sister who surprised us with that. Our friends and family who supported and prayed for us through our journey joined us and we just had so many amazing memories.

All things work together for God and this event wasn't just for us, but to continue reflecting a Christ center relationship, a vow to keep our marriage Christ driven and centered, and a moment in life to be thankful to God for all the blessings that flowed for us.
