[Bucket List No. 003] The Project of Being Still & Being a Light in this Dark World

"In this dark world, be the light to someone." -- K.Q.S.M

Through the chaos of the world and the noise of all these terrible things happening around us we feel stressed out, unsafe in the unknown, and living in these times of experiencing one bad situation to another.

In these times, we need to make sure that we give ourselves self-care, time with our significant other, and or family and friends in the best way possible. I took a card out of the self-care bucket list box and found the card that said, "Burn a nice smelling candle, essential oil, or aromatherapy product."

I did that and personally wanted to meditate in God's word. I am reminded in these tough and difficult times that we are not alone. We each have our own personal struggles, hopes, and fears. I leaned into God's word as I had the candle burning, and reflected on how I can be a light in this dark world somehow.

With our story, character, and love, we bring forth a light in this dark place. I'm not here to stir anything up, I'm just here to express my personal feeling on what has happened lately in this world. Blackout Tuesday was such an amazing initiative that was created. On Tuesday, June 2, 2020 social media platforms were flooded with symbolic black squares. To see the number of people who took part in Blackout Tuesday to go silent on social media, reflect on recent events, and stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

It made me see that this initiative can go beyond these walls and flood into so many other aspects in our lives. I personally would like to also have a personal blackout to go silent from social media to enjoy life in front of me instead of always being on a screen. Taking it back to the days where social media didn't exist and technology was not as advanced. To give myself time to reflect on recent events not just in the world but in my life personally.

I've come to realize that sometimes we just need to be still, not take the people in our lives for granted. To really make sure we treat all people with respect, even the ones that are tough to love. I reflect on these verses in this time of chaos and troubling times, and I hope that in some way, this gives you encouragement and hope.

John 8:12

12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying,“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Matthew 5:13-16

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Psalm 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Psalm 37: 7-9

7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. 9 For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.
